There’s chaos in my cornflakes
by William Gee
Third Prize in the Bare Fiction Prize for Poetry 2017
and I’m hoping you’ll see it
somewhere under all my milk
and perform some kind of
intervention
if things become too much
to swallow
I’m hoping you’ll touch my hand
at the summit of each spoonful
and check between the cracking
of corn for anything that might
be better off outside my mouth
that you’ll understand I’m afraid
of moving my tongue incorrectly
when I chew
in case I do anything to hurt myself
or you, by association
