Event Details

Gentle/Radical and WOW Women’s Film Club are delighted to be hosting the extraordinary talent that is TANYA MUNEERA WILLIAMS, as part of a workshop-presentation in Cardiff on Saturday 25th March, at the Tramshed Tech.

Williams is a Bristol-born, London-based, rapper, poet, writer, cultural commentator and aspiring comedian. She’s one half of the dynamic, Muslim female hip-hop and spoken word duo Poetic Pilgrimage.

Williams will deliver a presentation, short workshop and Q and A introducing her music, influences, and how she came to be a ‘Hijabi in Hip-Hop.’ She’ll share a brief history of Poetic Pilgrimage, and the duo’s mission to create progressive Hip Hop that fuses with their passion: music that provides the backdrop for a message of peace, unity and freedom.

Williams has also been involved in community-led democracy initiatives, as a means to provide platforms for narratives that are often neglected or not represented in society. Using her skills and passion, Williams etches a space of dialogue that can be accessed regardless of cultural, religious or gender boundaries. Rooted in spirituality she uses communication and art for edification and change.

Poetic Pilgrimage are a dynamic, British-Muslim Hip-Hop and spoken word duo. Their music addresses a range of social issues and themes, from identity to global politics to women’s rights. They perform internationally, collaborate globaly, and make regular trips to Europe, America and Africa with their music.

This will be a fascinating session, from an artist with a unique and powerful perspective. Whether musician or artist…community worker, writer, activist or feminist…Muslim, Jew, Sikh, or Buddhist…or simply interested citizen…everyone is very welcome!
