John Wilks taught English in inner London for over thirty years before completing the MA in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths. He is currently working on a collection of stories about school, juxtaposing his experiences as a boarding-school pupil with those as a recent teacher in Tower Hamlets. His story The Boy Who Hated Cigarettes was highly commended in the Manchester Fiction Prize and won 3rd prize in the Bare Fiction Prize for Short Story 2015. He lives in Greenwich.
